Audition for the Performance Ensemble

The Performance Ensemble is a project-based opportunity for dancers to participate in Ballet Embody’s mainstage productions only—specifically, The Maryland Nutcracker (fall) and our narrative spring ballet.

This flexible performance track is designed for dancers who:

Are passionate about performing
Enjoy dancing and have some previous experience
Want to be part of a high-caliber production
Cannot commit to the year-round expectations of the Student or Professional Company

New for this season: To support a range of dancer experience and availability, Performance Ensemble members are placed into one of three commitment tracks based on casting, choreography needs, and rehearsal capacity:

Performance Ensemble III: Dancers rehearse more frequently and may be cast and rehearse alongside the Professional Company. This track requires strong technique.
Performance Ensemble II: Dancers are scheduled and may rehearse alongside the Student Company. This track is ideal for dancers developing consistency while balancing other time commitments.
Performance Ensemble I: Dancers participate in choreography created specifically for the Performance Ensemble, with rehearsals limited to Sundays (with occasional Saturdays close to the show). This track offers the most limited time commitment while still providing a fulfilling performance experience.

All Performance Ensemble dancers are cast only in the production(s) they audition for. This inclusive track celebrates artistry, community, and Ballet Embody’s commitment to storytelling through dance.

Eligibility:

All dancers must register and attend the posted audition.
Rehearsals are held on Sundays at Synergy Space (Westminster, MD), with occasional Saturdays added closer to the performance.
Age 8+ are eligible to audition.
Dancers from any studio or school are welcome.
Please bring pointe shoes if applicable.

Expectations of accepted Performance Ensemble Dancers:

Complete and return a signed contract and share rehearsal availability prior to the start of the season.
Fees:
- Ages 8–18: $195 participation fee + $85 costume fee (scholarships available)
- Ages 18+: $85 costume fee only
Adequately warm self up prior to rehearsal start times.
Attend weekly rehearsals on Sundays and occasional Saturdays at Synergy Space in Westminster, MD with minimal absence. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled as performances draw near.
