#MeetTheArtist | Meet Madison

Madison began studying classical ballet at age four, and fell in love with dancing. She continued her training in all styles of dance at EMC Performing Arts Studio in New Freedom, PA, and at The Towson Childrens Dance Division in Maryland. She was a member of The Susquehanna Youth Ballet where she had many opportunities to perform at local venues, as well as perform various lead roles in their annual production of The Nutcracker. Madison has attended Summer and Winter dance intensives at Christopher K. Morgan & Artists, Koresh Dance Company, and Complexions Contemporary Ballet. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance and Choreography from Towson University. During her time there, Madison had the opportunity to perform classical and original works with the Towson University Dance Company while training under Runqiao Du, Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell, Catherine Horta-Hayden, Susan Mann, Nancy Wanich Romita, Malcolm Shute, and Vincent Thomas. Madison has also danced with Charm City Ballet Company, and performed lead roles in their productions of A Christmas Carol, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and The Wizard of Oz. Madison is currently a company artist with Ballet Embody in Westminster MD. She is thrilled to be performing with the company in their third season. Madison also enjoys guest teaching and choreographing for studios and dance companies in the Maryland and Pennsylvania areas.

What genre of dance is your favorite? Why?

Contemporary Ballet is my favorite because I love the discipline and structure of ballet, and the creativity and freedom of contemporary. It's the best of both worlds.

What is your favorite full length ballet/variation/performance? Why?

My favorite variation is Gamzatti from La Bayadere performed by Marianela Nunez. It was one of the first variations I ever learned during a summer intensive, and she is my favorite ballerina of all time. As cheesy as it is, I just really love The Nutcracker. It never gets old, and it makes me so happy.

Why do you dance?

I was super shy when I was younger, and dance was always a way I could express myself. Now I could never picture my life without dance being a part of it.

If you wear pointe shoes, what kind do you wear? If not pointe shoes, what kind of flat shoes do you prefer?

I wear Russian Muse pointe shoes.

What other jobs/activities/talents/passions do you pursue?

In my free time I love baking, working out, rewatching Greys Anatomy, spending time with my family, and drinking lots of coffee.

From our followers: Do you have another job(s)? If so, what do you do?

I work at The Cheesecake Factory, and I teach dance.

What are you looking forward to this season with Ballet Embody?

I'm so excited to see our version of The Maryland Nutcracker come together!
