#MeetTheArtist | Meet Rebecca

Rebecca Dunphy is from Stewartstown, Pennsylvania where she began her dancing from at EMC Performing Arts Studio. Here she trained extensively in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, contemporary, and hip hop under notable teachers such as Michelle White Cummings of Ballet West, Ashley Spears of Joffrey Ballet, and Carrie Millikin Euker of Milwaukee Ballet as a member of The Susquehanna Youth Ballet and Company Elite. Her training continued at Mercyhurst University where she performed with The Mercyhurst Dancers, Mercyhurst University Dance Team, and Liturgical Dance Ensemble. In addition to classical works, she was selected to work with contemporary guest artists including Catherine Meredith, Gina Patterson, and Jeffrey Rockland. In May 2021, Rebecca graduated Summa Cum Laude from Mercyhurst University with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance Performance and Criminal Justice, with a concentration in pre-law studies. She is currently working professionally in the criminal justice system while continuing to perform and teach throughout the local area.

What genre of dance is your favorite? Why?

Ballet, I love that you can take a class anywhere with anyone and the same principles still apply


What is your favorite full length ballet/variation/performance? Why?

Stars and Stripes, I love how upbeat and springy the choreography is. It just puts you in a good mood!


Why do you dance?

It has given me an incredible opportunity to learn more about myself and others.

What other jobs/activities/talents/passions do you pursue?

Passionate about criminal justice (I have a BA in criminal justice) and my hobbies include running, working out, cooking, and anything that gets me outside.


What are you looking forward to this season with Ballet Embody?

This is my first season, so I’m most looking forward to meeting everybody and, of course, The Maryland Nutcracker!
